A new beginning (Day 809)

Published on May 19, 2012 by in Logs
While I have included some previous logs, we will now begin to release new reports of the antics of the Beasts and their Handlers. Enjoy.

Begin Entry

Day 809
This morning the Smaller Beast awoke before the Larger Beast. He spent a happy hour interacting with the Female Handler in the quiet sanctuary of the Handler’s sleeping quarters. Once the Larger Beast awoke, activities were moved to the primary living quarters after both Beasts were fed their morning meal.

The Larger Beast has shown a sudden interest in the activity known as ‘reading’, much to the joy and chagrin of the Handlers. Almost every activity is now interrupted with pleas of  ”Mama read book please!” Mama is what the Larger Beast refers to the Female Handler as. While the Female Handler personally enjoys reading a good book and is pleased to see this trait continue in her Beast charge, it is also challenging to be required to give repeated renditions of “Good Night San Francisco” each day. But at least the Larger Beast appears to be learning appropriate behaviors for polite company.

The Smaller Beast is only interested in a book if he is given the opportunity to grab the pages or chew on it as well as be read to. Today he took a prime opportunity to spread poop in an explosive manner right out of his diaper after the Female Handler changed his diaper and did not put pants back on over his onesie before driving home. This appears to be a skill small Beasts master at an early age. The Male Handler made the Female Handler clean up the damage while he dealt with the actual Beast.

A change of schedule (Day 784)

The Female Handler is taking the Larger Beast to something called a “make-up swim class”. The Beast is expected to learn to exert its appendages to keep from drowning in a large body of water.

The Smaller Beast makes up for its disrupted afternoon sleep by sleeping in the car during transit. The Handlers begin to hope the afternoon disruptions caused by workers building Habitats nearby will end soon.

End entry.

The Male Handler Returns

The Beasts showed uncommon cooperation that the Female Handler much appreciated.

Day 7 of 7:
The Beasts showed uncommon cooperation during the Costco trip today. No one was injured & supplies were successfully purchased.

The Larger Beast was extremely pleased to see the Male Handler on his return and enjoyed queso quite thoroughly at dinner.

The Smaller Beast made its first attempt at cruising this morning. A successful week of progress for this specimen.

End Chapter 7.

The Male Handler goes out of town pt. 6

Day 6 of 7:

The Larger Beast continues its streak of uncooperative behavior. Toilet paper was strewn across the habitat and the Smaller Beast was sat upon multiple times. The Larger Beast received multiple “time outs”.

The Smaller Beast continues expanding its range of exploration; today it discovered a “bench” and a “toilet seat” as well as communicated with visitors using the facial expression know as smile.

As a side effect of both Beasts sleeping late, the Costco trip did not occur.

Tomorrow: attempt 2 for Costco, collect the Male Handler from the airport and dinner with other Handlers.

End chapter 6.

The Male Handler goes out of town pt. 5

Day 5 of 7:

The absence of the Male Handler begins to take its toll on morale of all.

This morning, in a show of dominance, the Larger Beast used its upper body strength to flip the trampoline over, while the Smaller Beast was sitting on top of it. The Smaller Beast used a high volume vocal call to request assistance and share its displeasure with this treatment.

The Smaller Beast seems to be picking up behavioral traits from its larger counterpart and napped only a short 45 minutes this afternoon.

Bed was pushed 30 minutes early as both Beasts were overly tired from disrupted naps. The Female Handler cleaned the dishes from feeding the beasts and retired for the evening.

Tomorrow: Costco

End chapter 5.
